Naphyrone NRG-1
Naphyrone NRG-1’ is a term used to describe several substances (the most common being NRG-1 and NRG-3) which are primarily derivatives of pyrone (or naphthyl pyrovalerone), a man-made ‘designer drug’ with stimulant properties. However, it is essential to note that many drugs sold as ‘NRG’ have been found to contain a wide range of chemicals and may have no relation to pyrone at all. Naphyrone does not have a long history of use, but it’s likely to share the same risks as other cathinones such as insomnia, loss of short-term memory, vertigo, grinding of teeth, and sweating.

Abstract
Naphyrone, also known as NRG-1, is a cathinone with stimulatory properties available on the grey/illicit drug market. As a cheap replacement for cocaine or other stimulants, it is structurally related to pyrovalerone, known for being a powerful stimulant with a pyrovalerone structure.
Pharmacology
The pharmacological properties of synthetic cathinone differ from molecule to molecule. Generally, the β-keto group increases the polarity of these substances if compared to related amphetamines. The increased polarity reduces the ability to cross the blood–brain barrier and, consequently, the potency of these compounds concerning amphetamines.
4 Behavioural effects of novel psychostimulants
Several studies have reported that mephedrone and related cathinone, like amphetamine, cause increased locomotor activity in rats (Baumann et al., 2012; Gatch et al., 2013; Huang et al., 2012; Lisek et al., 2012; López-Arnau et al., 2012). Gatch et al. reported that MDPV and pyrone were particularly potent in causing intense and long-lasting effects on locomotor activity. They also showed that all the cathinone derivatives tested (butylene, mephedrone, mephedrone, methylone, MPDV, and pyrone) were fully substituted for methylamphetamine or for cocaine in drug discrimination tests.
